Donald S. Wood, DVM
Dr. Wood received his veterinary degree, with honors from The Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan in 1978. He has lived all over the United States and Canada, finally migrating to sunny southern California in mid 1980’s. The place he was meant to be!
After graduating from WCVM, Dr. Wood did a one-year internship at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City, and then he did a three-year surgical residency at Michigan State University. After MSU, he wanted to venture to the “warmer” climate, accepting a surgical position at a specialty practice in Los Angeles. Dr. Wood’s passion is to perfect all aspects of small animal surgery from start to finish with attention to detail at every level of practice. Dr. Wood is proficient with numerous orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries, with a special interest in knee surgeries (ruptured cruciate ligament repair). After several years in Los Angeles, Dr. Wood missed the “small” town feel, and had the opportunity to purchase Adobe Animal Hospital from Dr. Paul Riste in 1989.
Dr. Wood is proud to have raised his three children in a “small” town community, the valley of the sun, Ramona. His oldest daughter Brandi is currently a medical Resident at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. Ben is studying electrical engineering at UCLA, go Bruins, and Ava is a student at James Dukes Elementary here in Ramona.
In his spare time, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and taking evening walks with his Labrador “Creasy”.

While there, she was involved with a research project with hyperthyroid cats that helped improve the success rate for treatment of feline hyperthyroidism. It was also there that she became involved with Adobe Animal Hospital, which led to her eventually becoming a part of the Adobe Animal Hospital team. Outside of work, Dr. Metcalf enjoys Cross-Fitting, running, and traveling whenever she has time. She currently has 2 cats, Pete and Sassy Pants that like staying at home while she works.
